THE DIZZY GILLESPIE QUINTET in ITALY, 1960

This is a superb set, presenting everything from, err, plain bebop to latin rhythms and also some fun vocal. Birks was at the peak of his creative powers then, and there was no one on the planet – at this point of his career – that could be fit to hold a candle to him, trumpetwise, I mean 😉

Dizzy Gillespie (tp) Leo Wright (as, fl) Junior Mance (p) Art Davis (b) Teddy Stewart (d):

1. Tour De Force
2. I Found A Million Dollar Baby
3. Willow Weep For Me
4. Lorraine
5. Ooh-Shoo-Bee-Doo-Be
6. Wheatleigh Hall
7. I Can’t Get Started
