…when I first heard it on German jazz radio; I think it was played during one of the late Werner Burkhardt’s broadcasts, aired on SWF, called “Swingtime”.
This was one of the very first tunes by Duke Ellington I ever heard: “All God’s Chillun Got Rhythm” from 1937, with the wonderful Ivie Anderson & “The Rabbit” Johnny Hodges on altosax.
Now, isn’t this a great, an almost revolutionary chart? — Notice the key-changes, and the Ⅱ-Ⅴ-Ⅰ progressions which were later common in modern jazz.
Well, the Duke was always way ahead of his time, wasn’t he?
Enjoy the ride!
Yours truly swingin’,
