“KIND OF BLUE”, PRE-VISITED ∽ BLUES BEFORE DAWN ∽ BARNEY BIGARD & HIS SEPTET ∽ December 29, 1944

The title of this article is easily explained:

Three horns, almost vibratoless ensemble work, kinda ‘cool’ phrasing on a nicely shaped blues; that’s the mid-1940’s ensemble sound of Ex-Ellingtonian Barney Bigard who recorded this rare gem for the Black & White label on December 29, 1944.

Full cast: Joe Thomas (tp) Barney Bigard (cl) Georgie Auld (ts) Leonard Feather (p) Chuck Wayne (g) Billy Taylor (b) Stan Levey (d).
