A Summerly 47th Anniversary: STAN GETZ QUARTET — SUMMERTIME @ CAFÉ AU GO GO — August 19, 1964

For my dear German readers:

About the Café Au Go Go on 152 Bleecker Street/ Thompson St., Greenwich Village, Manhattan, NYC.

Here’s much more reading pleasure about the legendary joint in ENGLISH.

This meditative, reflective version of Summertime (transferred from the original LP) is purely instrumental, and shows Stan Getz at the peak of his powers.

And so, there was no charming Astrud Gilberto, singing mostly “desafinado” on other tracks😉

Grab a cool drink & enjoy!

1 x SUMMERTIME

Personnel, place & date: Stan Getz (ts) Gary Burton (vib) Gene Cherico (b) Joe Hunt (d) – Café Au Go Go, Greenwich Village NYC, August 19, 1964

Blog owner’s note: Feel free to go HERE  for getting the complete CD.

It’s a shame that this fantastic band has never released a regular studio album. — There is at least a CD-issue of  Stan Getz – Nobody Else But Me – one of those “lost” sessions – which got released in the 1990’s.

Addendum for the nostalgic who wants to travel back in time, but can’t because most of the historic places have been demolished. — For example, look how the corner at 152 Bleecker/ Thompson Street has changed in only a few years:

Some years later:

The original Café Au Go Go is also pictured in Marc Myer’s JazzWax
