This little weekend-post shall serve as an invitation to visit my monthly “Seasonal Sound” widget on the right column of this swingin’ blog (below the search box).
Here we go again with February and Harry James & His Music Makers from the boppin’ year 1949:
This exciting Neal Hefti (the 3rd trumpeter from the left) chart can be found on the splendid Hep-CD release Big John Special ’49, or on the LP “Big Band Landmarks – Vol. X-XI” (pictured below).
Harry went quite wild here, didn’t he? Willie Smith did the altosax solo, and Don Lamond is on drums; I can only guess who’s on trombone: Valve trombonist Juan Tizol perhaps (below right corner)?
Anyway: It’s the perfect sound for Spring to come, isn’t it?

Thanks, man. Just the right music for this lovely spring day. The snow’s gone!
