Here we have Harlem Nocturne as played by Georgie Auld. Georgie was Robert DeNiro’s saxophone coach for his role in New York, New York.

Georgie himself was casted as a bandleader.

Gerry Mulligan stated: “As soon as he leaves the screen, you can leave the theater.”

I think that says it all about that movie.
